Akobo County Commissioner Gatwech Reat said the deadly fighting involving Chiengwanjang and Chiengwuor took place on Tuesday morning and was triggered by a disagreement between two young men at Deng-Jok area.
“10 people were killed and four others injured. The majority were killed in the crossfire as they tried to escape when the two were fighting,” he said, according to the independent Radio Tamazuj.
Commissioner Reat blamed the incident on the armament of the local youth and called for the implementation of the security arrangements under the 2018 deal to foster security in the country.
For his part, Joseph Mayen Akoon, the state police commissioner, claimed calm had returned to the area after the local authorities intervened since Wednesday.
