JUBA – A veteran medical worker who is employed by the Eastern Equatoria state ministry of health was on Thursday pulled out of his work station at a local medical facility in Mugali and brutally killed by suspected cattle keepers from Jonglei state.

Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, a senior government official who requested not to be named said Dr. Patrick Tongun was killed on Thursday evening while at the hospital and was pulled out of the local health facility and had his throat cut off before he died.

“Dr. Patrick was killed on Thursday by cattle keepers from Bor. Dr. Patrick has been working with NGOs in the Equatoria  region for 20 years and recently joined the ministry of health where he was employed at Mugali PHCU,” the government official said.

“At this health facility, he was pulled out while treating some of the wounded people and then killed. They cut off his throat and then died. This is brutal and we condemn this act in the strongest terms possible,” he added.

The senior government official who requested not to be named told Sudans Post that the veteran health worker was in his late 50s when he was killed and called on central government to intervene.
