KHARTOUM – Prominent South Sudan opposition politician and leader of National Democratic Movement (NDM) Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin has said that the National Dialogue is a detraction from the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement signed in September 2018.

Dr. Lam made the remarks weeks after turning down an invitation by the National Dialogue Steering Committee to attend the final conference of the ND which begins this morning in the capital Juba.

“The so-called National Dialogue is a detraction from the implementation of the peace agreement signed two years ago. It was supposed to endorse the 32 States and a Presidential system,” Dr. Lam said.

“What will the National Constitutional Conference do?” he asked.

Other opposition groups such as the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, have also turned down the invitation to attend the meeting, because the conference is tackling issues that are addressed in the revitalized peace agreement.

“The R-ARCSS has addressed all the root causes of the conflict and many other things that are going to be discussed in the National dialogue Conference in Juba,” Dut Majokdit, a senior SPLM-IO member said.

“The SPLM-IO is committed to peace and stability, but we have nothing to do with the National dialogue initiative it’s time to speed up the process of the peace implementation. The National dialogue is not important this time simply because we have the Peace Agreement ,” he added.
