KHARTOUM – The leader of South Sudan’s opposition National Democratic Movement (NDM) Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin has suspended his deputy, Thomson Thon Teny, for what the prominent opposition leader said are destructive activities Teny has engaged in.
In a suspension letter extended to Sudans Post, Dr. Lam accused his deputy of working to cause split within the National Democratic Movement adding many efforts to bring him on board from such activities were faulty because he didn’t want the unity of the movement.
“Since July last year you have been engaged in destructive activities directed towards causing a split within the Movement. Many efforts have been made to dissuade you from such activities including through telephone conversations between the two of us and meetings of the members of the National Executive Committee in Juba under your chairmanship,” the letter reads in part.
“Despite all these attempts you continued to sow discord among members of the Movement. Today, you went to a reputable newspaper in Juba in which you wanted the paper to publish your ill-advised moves against the NDM, thus bringing to the open internal matters of the Movement,” the statement said.
Dr. Lam who is also the Secretary-General of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) further added: “All these activities are a flagrant breach of Article 46 sub-sections (2), (4), (7), (8), (9), (10) and (12) of the Basic Rules. On the basis of the above and in exercise of the powers vested in me under Article 20 (4) of the Basic Rules of the National Democratic Movement 2016, you are hereby suspended from all your duties in the NDM until an investigation committee is formed in accordance with Article 20 (5) of the Basic Rules to look into these charges.”
