JUBA — South Sudan prominent opposition leader Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin has said that the 11th independence anniversary should be dedicated to the country’s national basketball team after several wins.
South Sudan this week defeated three African national basketball teams of Rwanda, Cameroon and African champions Tunisia.
The win earned the South Sudanese basketball team praises among the citizens who have sought to turn it into criticism against the government which they said hasn’t done anything for more than a decade compared to the team which has defeated three African teams in a matter of two days.
In a statement, Akol who is also the chairman of the opposition National Democratic Movement (NDM) said that the country’s team has achieved what the political leaders haven’t achieved in 11 years.
“In a span of 48 hours our national basketball team did wonders and made us proud. Congratulations boys!” Akol wrote on Twitter.
“You achieved in a span of hours what we the politicians couldn’t in 11 years. 9th of July this year should be dedicated to you,” he added.
