Earthquake of unknown magnitude hits South Sudan’s capital Juba

JUBA – South Sudan’s capital Juba on Thursday afternoon experienced a slight earthquake, according to a number of residents who spoke to Sudans Post.

“There was an earthquake today in Juba but it is not as big as the previous one which happened around May or June, but it was not that small. We get scared because why earthquakes are becoming more in this part of the country,” one resident said.

“I was in Gudele when it happened. I thought it was not an earthquake by some of my friends have called me to ask if I had experienced that and this is why I have confirmed that it really happened,” another resident said.

There was no indication that people or properties were affected by the light earthquake.

Earthquakes of similar magnitudes are increasingly becoming common in Juba, always with no casualties.

There was a 2.9 magnitude earthquake on 4 May 2020.

Most recent one was when the capital was hit by a 3.0 magnitude earthquake in June 2021.

No damages were reported as result of the two quakes.
