Akol was elected during the EABC’s 23rd annual general meeting held on December 13 in Arusha, Tanzania. The newly elected governing council and executive committee will serve a two-year term from 2024 to 2026.
In his acceptance speech, Akol expressed gratitude to the outgoing executive committee and pledged to lead the EABC in its mission to be the voice of the private sector and promote a borderless East Africa.
Frank Mbando, Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary representing Arusha Regional Commissioner Paul Makonda, commended the EABC’s role in regional economic integration.
He invited East African business leaders to invest in Arusha, particularly in the edible oil and textile sectors, and highlighted opportunities arising from the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
The newly elected EABC governing council and executive committee comprises John Lual Akol Akol as Chairperson, Olivier Suguru (Burundi), Jas Bedi (Kenya), Dennis Karera (Rwanda), Angelina Ngalula (Tanzania), and Simon Kaheru (Uganda) as Vice Chairpersons.
Other members include Boaz Nimpe, Laurent Nsenda Bukassa, Linda Kaneza (Burundi); Rajan Shah, Muhoho Kenyatta, Clifford Machoka (Kenya); Linda Kalimba Mulenga, Emmanuel Nkusi, Emmanuel Butare (Rwanda); Kennedy Lodiong Kenyi, Mou Ambrose Thiik, Osama M. Bilal (South Sudan); Paul Makanza, Ashish Mistry, Satbir Singh (Tanzania); Kenneth Ayebare, Bruce Mpamizo, Oscar Kamukama (Uganda).
Adrian Njau serves as the Secretary to the Governing Council and Executive Committee.
