TORIT – Eastern Equatoria civil society organizations have called on the governments of Greater Pibor and Eastern Equatoria to investigate recent Murle attacks on the Toposa community of Kauto.
The attacks reportedly resulted in numerous deaths, child abductions, and livestock raids.
Charles Onen Lokwaruk, state coordinator of the Eastern Equatoria Network Organization, condemned the attacks.
He expressed shock and frustration as they occurred despite ongoing peace initiatives in the region.
“These latest acts have not only manifested civil intentions but also undermined and frustrated peace-hunting efforts in the region between the counties bordering Kapoeta East from Greater Pibor administrative areas,” Onen said.
Onen called for the attackers to be brought to justice and emphasized the severity of the human rights violations against the Toposa community.
“Eastern Equatoria State Civil Society Organization Network condemns and decries in the strongest terms its deserve, the intentions, the interest, and the entire attack on innocent children, women, youths, and men of Kauto and describes the attack as unruly, barbaric, and heartless conduct by Murle tribe and calls for justice to prevail for the innocent victims (dead or alive),” Onen added.
The Eastern Equatoria State Civil Society Organizations Network extended their condolences to the victims’ families.
They urged an immediate release of abducted individuals and called for humanitarian intervention in Kauto Payam to support those affected and work towards sustainable peace in the region.
