JUBA – South Sudan government’s economic cluster has said that it is working to adjust salary structure for public servants across the country two days after the government presented fiscal budget for 2021/2022 to the minister of finance.
It is reported that the budget presented to the ministry of finance by the government amounts to 70.3 billion South Sudanese pound and unnamed government official is quoted by Eye Radio that the government will “need to look into their way of living.”
Currently, a soldier, for example, received a monthly salary of 1500 South Sudanese Pound, an equivalent of 6 United States dollars. This amount, which usually takes six month to arrive, cannot carter for the basic needs of the soldier’s household.
The minister of environment, Josephine Napwon, who is also a member of the economic cluster said: “This is one of the main things that has been disturbing us a lot in South Sudan – more especially for those with low salaries.”
“So, the deficit that we will need to balance our budget will be SSP 332, 997, 701, 197. This is the amount that we will need so that we meet our current budget with the new salary structure,” Napwon she added.
