CAIRO – Egyptian authorities deported hundreds of Sudanese nationals on Thursday, accusing them of violating residency regulations and entering the country illegally.
A senior Sudanese police officer told Sudans Post that approximately 721 Sudanese nationals were deported via the Arqin crossing point after they entered Egypt through smuggling routes.
Ten buses were used to transport them back to Sudan.
The source said the deportees included families with “elderly people, children, and young people” of both genders.
Separately, the Qena Security Directorate in southern Egypt apprehended seven buses carrying Sudanese passengers who lacked official residency permits, Egyptian media reported.
Sudan’s official news agency, SUNA, confirmed the deportations and reported that investigations revealed most individuals entered Egypt illegally by crossing the southern border.
The deportees were transported to various Sudanese cities, including Dongola, Gadaref, and Kassala.
A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, anticipated further deportations in the coming days.
These would target individuals who entered through smuggling routes, failed to regularize their residency status, or were involved in criminal cases and served time in Egyptian prisons.
