Egyptian police arrest six for “sexually” harassing South Sudanese woman in public

CAIRO – Egyptian authorities have arrested six young men in the capital Cairo for sexually harassing a young South Sudanese women in public, according to a statement by the country’s ministry of interior.

On Tuesday, social media users and activists circulated a video in which a group of young Egyptian men could be seen sexually harassing an unidentified South Sudanese women in the Cairo district of Nasr City.

Initially, some witnesses contacted by Sudans Post said no police arrest has been made.

However, in a statement this afternoon, the Egyptian ministry of interior said its department of criminal investigation who had began to process to identify the culprits as soon as the video circulated online were able to identify and apprehend those involved.

“Following the circulation of a video clip that includes some young men harassing a girl with a foreign nationality in Zahraa City, Nasr,  the security services have succeeding in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators of the incident,” the Egyptian police statement seen by Sudans Post reads in part.

“After legalizing the procedures, they were all targeted and caught, and all have of them have confessed to involvement in the incident,” the statement added.

It further said that the police have also identified the victim who has also said she was sexually harassed upon her return from work.
