ADDIS ABABA — The Ethiopian government has published a book that detail most of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed’s landmark reforms that captured the world’s attention and earned him a Nobel Peace Prize.

Dr. Ahmed came to power following an abrupt resignation of his predecessor Helemariam Desalange in 2018 and undertook economic, security and political reforms that saw return of exiled opposition figures into the country.

During first days of Abiy’s leadership, Ethiopia and Eritrea, longtime foes who fought a border war from 1998 to 2000, restored relations in July 2018 after years of hostility.

The Nobel Peace Prize was given to him, according to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, for restoring peace with Eritrea as well as economic and political reforms that earned Ethiopia praise from across Africa and the world.

“Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali has been awarded this year’s Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea,” the Norwegian Nobel Committee said in its citation.

In a statement, the Ethiopian government communications service said a book has been inaugurated that detail reforms that were effected by PM Abiy since he came into power.

“A book has been inaugurated that covers the reforms that have been done in Ethiopia’s security and security sector,” the GCS statement reads in part.

“The book has been prepared by the government communication service and the national information and security service,” it adds.

It said “The book is prepared in three languages, Amharic, Afan Oromo and English languages. It has been announced that it will be prepared in other languages and will be broadcasted in all regions to be an input for federal and regional communication experts.”
