ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian President Sahlework Zewde and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and deputy secretary-general of the United Nations Amin J. Mohamed have arrived in the Amhara region, according to a state-own outlet Ethiopian Press Agency.

According to the report, the three leaders will access the humanitarian situation in the region which has been in a humanitarian crisis following last year’s fighting in which the rebellious Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) destroyed public properties and killed civilians.

“Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopian President Sahlework Zewde, former president of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo and vice secretary of the United Nations Amina Mohammed arrived in Amhara today,” the state-owned news outlet reported this morning.

The report further said the visiting president and the delegation were received at Amera Sultan Alimirah Hanfere airport by the Afar president Awol Arban as well as senior regional officials.

“The president of Afar region Mr. Awol Arban including federal and regional higher officials as well as the elders and religious leaders of the country have welcomed him when he arrived at Amera Sultan Alimirah Hanfere airport,” it added.
