ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian rebel leader Debretsion Gebremichael on Tuesday met former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo to discuss regional developments and how to achieve peace in Ethiopia.

In a statement, rebellious Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) spokesman Getachew K. Reda said Debretsion received Obasanjo in the Tigray capital Mekele and discussed region issues.

“President Debretsion Gebremichael today received and held talks with AU Special Envoy Chief Obasanjo on regional matters,” he wrote in a brief statement seen by Sudans Post on twitter.

The visit by Obasanjo to Mekele comes days after several rebel and government officials alike said the warring parties in Ethiopian were in secret talks on possible consensus to end the conflict.
