JUBA — Ethiopian’s top envoy in South Sudan on Wednesday said the government forces had recaptured all major towns in Amhara and Afan regions from Tigrayan fighters.
Ethiopian ambassador to South Sudan, Nebil Mahdi Abdullahi disclosed it during the Christmas dinner reception hosted by the embassy in Juba on Wednesday.
“As you may follow, now the situation in Ethiopia is moving in a positive trajectory. Our National Defense Forces and joint allied forces led by Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed have reversed the advancement of terrorist TPLF forces,” Mahdi told journalists on Wednesday in Juba.
The Top Ethiopian diplomat accused the TPLF rebel group of committing human rights abuses and destruction of public facilities in the Tigray region.
“The government has recaptured almost all towns in Amhara and Afan regions. During the advance, we have witnessed the brutal atrocities and catastrophes committed by the TPLF terrorist group. The group has shown its irresponsible nature by looting and demolishing public facilities like health centers, schools, and universities. Regrettably, this got no attention of either international journalists or a human rights activist,” he said.
He reiterated the government’s readiness to resolve the conflict peacefully.
“The goal of the whole military campaign is ascertaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ethiopia. This will continue until TPLF comes into its senses and shun the culture of impunity. The government of Ethiopia is still adhering to peaceful resolution of conflict,” he said.
The TPLF has been fighting in neighboring regions of Amhara and Afar after federal; forces withdrew from the Tigray region in early July following its declaration of a unilateral cease-fire on June 29, to enable humanitarian access.
The Tigray People’s Liberation Front rebel group, which announced its withdrawal from the Amhara and Afar regions this week called for a ceasefire.
I am disappointed to note the USA is fully supporting the rebels in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has been there before and after Africa colonization. This is the country people in Africa and in other parts of the world praise as the only country in Africa not contaminated by colonialization.
Africa must wake up and realizes that some powerful nations want to break up African countries for their own benefits. They believe in divide and rule system. Once divided, you will never find peace and tribalism and regionalism will take over. Africa wake up. The enemy and pretender is hard at work.
