Ex-deputy governor of defunct Gbudue state dies in Juba

The former state senior official died of diabetes yesterday at the Nujum clinic in Juba, according to a family member.

JUBA – The deputy governor of South Sudan’s defunct Gbudue state, Kpiawandu Victor who is better known as Victor Danda has died of diabetes in the country’s capital Juba, Eye Radio reported citing a family member.

The former state senior official died of diabetes yesterday at the Nujum clinic in Juba, according to the family member.

“Victor Kpiawandu passed on yesterday at 10 pm to actually what they called Diabetic ketoacidosis and we are yet to receive the report from the hospital but that is what exactly the doctor told me is the cause of his death,” the family member identified as Badagbu Daniel said.

The South Sudanese politician was 62.

Danda who was one of the prominent members of the pre-South Sudan independent national unity government in Khartoum led a peace negation between the government and the former South Sudan National Liberation Movement in 2016.

He was a member of South Sudan’s Council of States prior to his appointment as deputy governor in Gbudue in 2016 following the creation of the now defunct 28 states by President Salva Kiir.

In 2017, he was appointed as speaker of Gbudue state parliament following increase of states from 28 to 32+Abyei.
