JUBA – Former deputy governor of South Sudan’s defunct Northern Liech state Laraka Machar Turoal has confirmed that he has declined appointment as chairperson of Unity state Human Rights Commission saying the appointment was not right because governor Joseph Nguen Manytuil did not consult him first.
Last week, President Salva Kiir Mayardit appointed in a republican decree members of Unity state transitional government. Those appointed include state ministers, advisors, chairpersons of commissions and county commissioners.
Following the announcement, reports surfaced on social media that Machar who was appointed as chairperson of Human Rights Commission in Unity state declined the position on accounts that he was previously a deputy governor.
Speaking to Sudans Post in an exclusive interview this afternoon, Machar confirmed that he declined the position, but did not give further reasons beyond his assertion that the appointment was not right because he wasn’t consulted by the governor before his appointment.
“The appointment was not right,” the former deputy governor said. “The Governor should have consulted me before the appointment is announced. The governor still has time to change for another cadre of SPLM.”
Laraka is not the only South Sudanese politician to decline position. A number of politicians including in Warrap state have declined their positions.
