KUAJOK — A group of criminals who remain at large and are suspected to be rivals have burned two houses belonging to former governor of South Sudan’s defunct Gogrial State General Gregory Vassilli Dmitry who is also President Salva Kiir’s brother in law, according to family members.

John Basili, the younger brother of General Gregory who is also among those who survived the deliberate fire outbreak said he was sleeping in one of the houses that were burnt to ashes.

“Last night, unknown persons who are expected and believed to be Gen. Gregory’s political rivals came and burnt one of his houses into ashes at Chuen-Agany village, an area in Abuok-Maroldit of Apuk Giir Thiik. After burning the house into ashes, they ran quickly to another house in the Adiercieen area close to Chuen-Agany to burn another house that was half saved,” John told Sudans Post.

“I was just sleeping and the fire burns waked me up, I ran out quickly saving my life from the danger, and I saw three men on a motorbike running away and I suspected those could be the criminals,” he added.

He further added that he and other family members who were at the house with him ran out for rescue and the criminals quickly ran away on a motorbike and said: “Luckily, the rain immediately fall down and helped save the house at Adiercieen from burning into ashes.”
