JUBA – Former spokesman of South Sudan United Front/Army led by General Paul Malong Awan Anei, Nyamach Nyang Chol, along with five other senior members of the Malong-led insurgent have declared their intention to return to Juba to join the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, one month after resignation from Malong.

Nyamach, a former employee of the ministry of foreign affairs who had defected to join Malong resigned on April 5 along with five other senior members of the group but did not state as to who they will join among the political actors in South Sudan.

They had then said they would make up their minds when a decision is reached of where they would move to.

In a statement this morning, the group of six former opposition officials said they – from today – decided to join the ruling faction of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM-IG) led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

“We would like to inform the general public and media houses that the following members (Maj Gen. Makuach Lual Tong, Amb. Nyamach Nyang Choul, Hon. Janyang Gatjiath Thoat, Maj. Gen. Philip Okuot Obich, Maj. Gen. Kawai Babouth, and Col. Odolla Owar Odolla) who have recently resigned from South Sudan United Front/Army on 8th March, 2021 and the 5th April, 2021 respectively, have hereby made the bold decision to rejoin the Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) in government under the leadership of H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan,” the statement said.

“The [….] members alongside over 1000 Officers, None-Commission Officers (NCOS) and men are declaring themselves to be a part of the SPLM in government, return home, be part of the nation building and peace implementation,” the statement said.
