JUBA — A group of former lawmakers in the defunct Waiwut state of Upper Nile have threatened to go to court against the defunct state’s former parliamentary speaker Chol Bol Wuor accusing her of embezzling almost 3 millions South Sudanese Pounds during her tenure as speaker of parliament in Maiwut.
In a letter signed by a lawyer representing the lawmakers, the former parliamentary speaker is threatened with a lawsuit if she do not show up by 2PM on October 15, 2021 in the lawyer’s office so that an amicable settlement is reached to avoid legal consequences for the former parliamentary speaker.
“You are hereby requested to appear before me in my office at 2:00pm on 15/10/2021 to answer questions related to a claim being raised by 19 Honorable Members of DEFUNG MAIWUT STATE,” the letter extended to Sudans Post reads in part.
The letter further said the former parliament head is wanted to explain circumstances in which 2,850,000 meant for June and July salaries went missing while she was the head of parliament and this, according to the lawyer, May lead to a solution that will avoid lawsuit.
“Some Honorable Members from defunct Maiwut state have reported a claim of 2,850,000 (Two Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty Thousand Pounds) referred to as a cash amount of emolument for ‘June & July, 2020’ being cut out of the Salary without any previous notification, therefore; you are hereby requested to immediately report yourself and clarity details over the complaint,” the letter added.
“Failure to abide by the above terms ‘time and date’ may result to aggressive legal action taken against you before the court of law which may cost you time and resources,” it further said.
