JUBA – Former Rubkona County commissioner, Major-General Eng. William Gatjang Ging is saying that he is contesting for deputy governor of South Sudan’s Unity state which has been allocated to the SPLM-IO during a meeting last month.

Gatjang who also served as minister of environment and natural resources in Unity state between 2010 and 2013 said in a statement seen by Sudans Post this morning that, if appointed, he will work to unite the people in Unity state and achieve security.

“Fellow Comrades in Struggle and in Unity State in particular,  let me […] inform you that I am now contesting the post of Deputy Governor in Unity State,” Gatjang declared.

I will work to “maintain the unity of our members ( SPLM-IO members) at all levels and better cooperation with our freedom fighters at the ground and will advocate for peace and unity of people of Unity State and neighboring South Sudanese communities in the neighboring States,” he added.

While vowing to commit himself to the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, Gatjang said he will also cooperate with other parties to the 2018 peace agreement and will work to deliver service needed by the people of Unity state.

“I will remain committed to the revitalized peace agreement and fully cooperate with Peace Partners (SPLM-IG, SSOA and OPP) and I will make delivery of services  such as health, clean water, education, and improve availability of food across Unity state,” he said.

He further said he will support youth activities and rehabilitate infrastructures damaged by the civil war.
