YEI – Fierce fighting has broke out this morning at a SPLA-IO base in Kajo-Keji in South Sudan’s Central Equatoria state after former SPLA-IO commander who defected to the government last week launched attack against SPLA-IO allegedly with the help of the government, an opposition officer said.
“This morning, following his defection to the Juba regime and immediate return to Liwolo area from Juba, Maj. Gen. Moses Lokujo, former Division 2B Commander, launched and personally commanded an attack on SPLA (IO) forces at Andezo and Bori areas in Kerwa Boma of Liwolo Payam, Kajo–Keji County of Central Equatoria State,” a senior SPLA-IO officer told Sudans Post this afternoon.
The official who preferred not to be named said the former SPLA-IO commander narrowly escaped death after the main armed opposition group responded and repulsed the attack saying General Lokujo ran into an SSPDF base.
“The SPLA (IO), in response, pursued and flushed Lokujo’s elements out of the Andezo and Bori areas. While a few ran towards SSPDF base at Sokare, a majority crossed as refugees to Mijale Sub-County of Yumbe District in the Republic of Uganda. Moses Lokujo himself survived narrowly,” teh officer said.
Another source in Yei said there is “a likelihood that the South Sudan army under commander Salva Kiir may have involved in the action because General Lokujo do not have forces because nobody defected with him.”
