BREAKING | Fighting breaks out between Mayendit Commissioner, ex-paramount chief’s loyalists

Fighting has been reported in Mayendit County of Unity state between loyalists belonging to opposition-nominated commissioner Gatluak Nyang Hoth Nyuol and those loyal to former paramount chief Magok Gatluak, residents have just told Sudans Post.

JUBA – Fighting has been reported in Mayendit County of Unity state between loyalists belonging to opposition-nominated commissioner Gatluak Nyang Hoth Nyuol and those loyal to former paramount chief Magok Gatluak, residents have just told Sudans Post.

“There is fighting today morning in Mayendit County between loyalist of Mayendit commissioner and relatives of former Paramount chief Magok Gatluak,” one source who preferred not to be named said.

“At least one person has been killed and several youth are still missing,” he added.

Gatluak was appointed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit in February on the ticket of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA). Differences have been reported between him and Paramount Chief Magok Gatluak.
