TIAR-ALIET – What started as small fire at a tea place in Aweil South County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State on Tuesday spread further and destroyed more than 45 shops.
The incident occurred at a market located in Tier-Aliet payam.
The police are holding two suspects in connection with the fire outbreak.
The suspects, Arek Ajal deng and Awan Muothon Angok, are market tea vendors.
The Tier-Aliet payam administrator, Wol Mawein said shops were burnt to ashes.
“We have formed a committee comprising of the traders’ union and police are probing the matter to get the losses incurred. They will come back to us and report the losses with value of properties lost,” he said.
Mawien said the huge fire burnt most of the properties to ashes.
He cited similar recent fire incidences in Maper, Udhum and Aroyo markets.
Mawein said a similar incident at Ham-sigo neighbourhood left properties in ashes.
In January, two children were burnt to death at Mangok payam in Aweil East county.
