JUBA – The French government has pledged to support the implementation of South Sudan’s revitalized peace agreement as well as to help in the removal of sanctions at the United Nations Security Council, according to a statement by the presidency.

The revelation was made by the French Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan, Jean-Michel Dumond, during a meeting at the state-house with President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit received the Special Envoy of France to South Sudan and Sudan Jean-Michel Dumond,” President Kiir’s office said in a statement seen by Sudans Post on Wednesday night.

“President of France, Emmanuel Macron extended his message of Congratulations to his South Sudanese Counterpart President Salva Kiir for successfully mediating the Peace Agreement of Sudan,” deputy foreign minister of foreign affairs Deng Dau was quoted as saying by the presidency statement.

The top South Sudan diplomat further added that the meeting between Kiir and the French diplomat “discussed the progress of the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement as well as the Sudanese Peace Agreement.”

On his part, Emmanuel Macron’s Special Envoy, Jean-Michel Dumond said that “the Government of France pledges it’s full support to the Government of South Sudan to implement the Peace agreement of South Sudan and Sudan.”

He further discussed with President Kiir his government’s support “through the UN Security Council to ensure that the sanctions on South Sudan are lifted for the smooth implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.”
