JUBA – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Saturday issued a republican decree forming the government of Central Equatoria state almost three weeks after presidential minister Nhial Deng Nhial announced that state governments would be formed by February 15.
Based on the revitalized peace agreement the parties shall share power at all levels of government in a 36-month transitional period after which general elections in which the rival parties are expected to compete for leadership of the world’s youngest country.
The formation of Central Equatoria state government is an important step in the establishment of states government, and other state governments are likely to be formed in the next few days, according to a senior government official familiar with the matter.
In the decree, Kiir appointed state ministers, county commissioners, gubernatorial advisors and heads of commissions as follow:
