YAMBIO – Western Equatoria Governor Alfred Futuyo Karaba elevated Nadiangere Payam to sub-county status on Tuesday, in a move aimed at addressing concerns about service delivery.
Nadiangere, located far from Yambio town, the seat of Yambio County, has reportedly struggled with limited access to essential services.
Governor Futuyo issued gubernatorial decree No: 11/2024, granting Nadiangere independence from Yambio County.
The order directs departments such as education, health, and agriculture in Nadiangere to report directly to the state ministries.
The state ministry of local government and law enforcement will deploy administrative officers to Nadiangere immediately.
The decision comes amidst reports citing several reasons for Nadiangere’s separation, including its significant distance from the county headquarters, a population of 17 bomas deemed sufficient for autonomy, and inadequate budget allocation and service delivery from Yambio County.
The order also mentions insufficient transfers of funds for education, health, and local administration within Nadiangere.
