Jackson Wani, head of the SPLM-IO youth body, announced the appointment of Gattiek, along with the designation of outgoing spokesman James Maykele Magueng as a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) in an order Wednesday.
The appointments, effective from October 2, 2024, were disclosed in the order seen by Sudans Post.
Gattiek, a seasoned youth leader, previously served as the deputy spokesman of the SPLM-IO Youth League in Egypt from 2017 to 2020. He also held the position of spokesman for the SPLM-IO Chapter in Egypt from 2021 to 2022.
In February 2022, he was appointed press secretary by then minister of water resources and irrigation, Manawa Peter Gatkuoth.
In a statement following his appointment, Gattiek expressed gratitude to the SPLM-IO Youth League leadership and pledged to work diligently in his new role and extended his thanks to colleagues, comrades, friends, and family members who congratulated him on his appointment.
“At this juncture, I am writing to accept my appointment as the Chairperson of the Information and Communication Committee of the SPLM-IO National Youth League and official spokesman. I register my gratitude to the leadership of the SPLM-IO National Youth League, especially comrade Chairperson and Secretary General for approaching me, and for the trust they bestowed upon me to serve at National Youth League,” Gattiek said.
“I am also expressing my deepest appreciation and congratulations to my predecessor, who is my beloved brother at the same time for endorsing my appointment to this assignment. As comrades pursuing the same cause for our country, I believe together we shall make a difference in our party and achieve our reform objectives for the citizens of our nascent South Sudan,” he added.
