JUBA – The military chief of staff of the main armed opposition SPLA-IO Lt. Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual was initially nominated in March by SPLM-IO leader and FVP Dr. Riek Machar Teny for position of presidential advisor, but was rejected by President Kiir instantly, according to a senior opposition official who is close to Machar in Juba.

In a presidential decree read out on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Tuesday night, President Kiir appointed General Gatwech Dual as as a presidential advisor for peace.

In April, member of the SPLM-IO National Liberation Council (NLC) Dut Majokdit told Sudans Post during an interview that President Salva Kiir had continued to reject some of the SPLM-IO’s nominees to various positions after he pressured Machar into replacing General Johnson Olony Thabo with General Abudhok Anyang.

“The president has continued to reject some of our nominees to some of the positions in the country,” Majokdit said from the country’s capital Juba at the time, without identifying the nominees who had been rejected by President Salva Kiir.

Speaking to Sudans Post on Wednesday evening, a senior opposition official who requested not to be named because he was not permitted to speak to the media said the SPLA-IO military had accepted in March to be appointed as a presidential advisor but President Salva Kiir didn’t approved his nomination until yesterday.

“I understand that there are confusions within the membership of the SPLM-IO. Some people are asking if the Chairman and Commander in Chief had accepted to be appointed to the role of presidential advisor or not,” the official said.

“Tonight, my answer is that yes. The chairman and commander in chief met with General Gatwech on phone in March and General Gatwech accepted to be appointed as a presidential advisor. His name has been before Kiir since March. Actually President Salva Kiir rejected his nomination initially. I don’t know why he approved it yesterday,” the official added.

The senior opposition official said “if there is to be any change of mind from the chief [of staff], then this must have something to do with recent disagreement with the chairman on the director of military intelligence and this should not be the case at all to change mind.”

The SPLA I0 Chief of staff general Simon Gatwech Dual is making nonsense excuse.

If he doesn’t like the Presidential advisor for peace then, why beating bush for what reason. Wearing uniforms and ranking wouldn’t make your life better but having a job will change your life and your family. The Military is for young people not Old people and this is why when you have reach to that stage which the SPLA I0 Chief of staff is perhaps, you must accepted.
