JUBA — South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLA-IO, faction led by General Simon Gatwech Dual has warned of imminent attack this morning by forces loyal to First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
In a statement extended to Sudans Post this morning, Brigadier General William Gatjiath Deng, the SPLA-IO spokesman loyal to General Simon Gatwech Dual, said forces loyal to Machar under the direct command of the SPLA-IO spy chief General Yieh Dak are on their way to attack them.
“Moreover, the merciless forces loyal to the former Chairman Dr. Riek Machar Teny, are now on their way coming to attack the SPLA (IO) at Kit-gwang GHQs, as already exposed by their warmonger Gen.Yiey Dak, the director of national security who was giving the farwell salutation to their forces,” General Gatjiath said the statement.
The senior opposition officer who has been accused of being the mastermind of the SPLM-IO split has however warned that their forces are on high alert and will respond with a huge force to the hostile forces that he said are in their way to their base in Magenis.
“But as a matter of fact, the mighty forces of SPLA (IO) under command of the interim Chairman and Commander in Chief (C-in-C) 1st/Lt-Gen Simon Gatwech Dual, are fully aware of your imminent attacks on our bases but they will be taught a good lesson at both,” he added.
While SPLA-IO spokesman loyal to First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar could not be reached for comment at the time of writing this report, sources said opposition forces loyal to General Gatwech Dual in Magenis haven’t slept in what they describe as an “inevitable” and imminent attack from Machar’s forces.
