KHARTOUM, JULY 8, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The deputy commander of the rebellious Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has today at dawn arrived in North Darfur State after fleeing the Sudanese capital Khartoum, Al Jazeera reports.

Gen. Abdelrahim Daglo, the brother of RSF chief Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (aka Hemedti), arrived at dawn today, Saturday, in the Al-Zarq area in North Darfur, the unnamed source said without indicating as to when he fled Khartoum.

Al-Zarq is a strategic desert area with a very huge military base for the Rapid Support Forces and has previously witnessed several high-profile visits by Hemedti and his brother Abderrahim.

The reasons for Daglo’s sudden departure are unclear, but it comes amid advance by the Sudanese Army in most parts of the capital Khartoum where fighting has been taking place since conflict broke out in mid-April.

This week, a deadly offensive launched by the Sudanese Armed Forces against the RSF in Omdurman, Khartoum and Khartoum Bahri resulted in a rapid advance of the army with hundreds of RSF fighters being killed.

Daglo’s sudden departure will be a major blow to the Rapid Support Forces and could further affect the morale of the RSF fighters in the capital Khartoum.
