JUBA — A senior member of South Susan’s main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny is saying that former SPLA-IO Commander, Gen. Khor Chuol Giet was ‘breaking ice’ when he claimed in a statement that Machar is a tribal politician.
General Khor defected in August from Dr. Riek Machar following the split in the SPLM-IO after an attempt by General James Gatwech Dual to remove Machar as the chairman and commander in chief of the main armed opposition group that sparked deadly violence in northern Upper Nile.
The former opposition commander last month returned to Juba to prepare for integration of his forces into South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), and also to meet President Kiir to discuss other essential issues affecting his soldiers, according to close allies to him.
In an address to the media following a meeting with President Salva Kiir last week, Gen. Khor said they “left SPLM/A-IO under Dr Riek Machar because they wanted to set their people free from the tribal hatred and sectional conflicts projected on them by SPLM/A-IO under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar.”
The top opposition commander further tressed that they “are the one governing the civilians and soldiers at the ground and currently there is no more SPLM/A-IO in Gajaak areas and there is no going back and they are for peace, stability and their people need services delivery.”
But speaking to Sudans Post on Monday evening, Dut Majokdit, senior member of the SPLM-IO and close ally of First Vice-President Machar said the former opposition commander was breaking ice to seek position in the name of Machar.
“Dr. Riek Machar Teny is not a tribalist person and because of that you know how the politics work in our country, people who first have to break ice in the name of a certain person before getting a positing,” he said.
I think general James Khor Chuol was correct.
Dr. Riek Machar Teny is a tribalist politician and there is no question about that. He only loved people who supported him but if you don’t then, he will not works with you. Dr. Riek Machar is main objectives is to be on Top in the country but he failed to prove himself how he will be a good leader.
In 1991, he break away from the late Chairman Dr.John Garang with others politicians and they signed Khartoum peace agreement in four years term and before the end of 4 years he flown to Germany and then, he returned to SPLM mainstream led by the late Chairman Dr.John Garang and he left people under Omar al Bashir not care about them. General Paulino Matip Nhial took most of his fighters out in Khartoum and others cities in al Nile Regions. He left people to be killed by Khartoum government and is that not betrayed to his own Nuers people? There are many proofs that, Dr. Riek Machar Teny is favoring his own family more than anyone but he was been protected by none of his relatives yet, he failed to recognize those who always pay a price because of his political actions.
Dr. Riek Machar as a first vice President didn’t condemning when 200 civilians were killed by SSPDF soldiers in Tonj East county and this is because they are Dinka people and how he will lead South Sudan nation? President Kiir Mayardit is not a good leader either but he could be better than Dr. Riek Machar Teny because he has reach out all sides. Look now, he is focusing on Northern Bhar El Ghazal region because there are people supporting him and he doesn’t cares about others people and he will do same thing if he became a President of South Sudan but God forbids. He hiring his own family and that is enough evidence that he will not be a good leader and the people who abandoning him have a reasonable to do so.
Dr. Riek Machar Teny run to Eastern Nuers communities in 1991 and again in 2013 and when the government was formed then, he appointed his wife, Son in law and more others on Top positions in political and Military positions while giving only one Minister of Water irrigation to Nuer Lou is that fairly for people who have been supporting him two times rebellion?
