Gen. Santino Deng Wol orders strict crackdown against criminals in Juba 

JUBA – The army’s Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Gen. Santino Deng Wol on Wednesday directed security agencies to speedily bring to halt criminal activities in Juba, the capital of the world’s youngest country.

General Wol issued this order during a visit by the heads of security mechanisms including him to Rajaf training center on Wednesday where a VIP protection force provided for in the revitalized peace agreement is being trained.

The army chief was accompanied by the Inspector General of Police, General Majak Akec Malok, and Director-General of Internal Security Bureau (ISB) of the National Security Service (NSS), General Akol Koor Kuc.

General Wol directed the security organs to improve their security.

“You must stop a robbery in all corners of Juba because Juba is full of foreigners and if it is not secure it will be said there is no security in South Sudan. We need 100 percent security,” Wol said.

The top army officer warned security officers against involvement in political activities.

“You are not party to any political party, you are not a party to SPLM nor SPLM-IO or SSOA. You are police officers for South Sudan,” he said.

“You have no connection with politics. If you are interested in politics, remove the police uniform and submit it to the police then join the politics because you cannot be both a police  officer and a politician.”

The Inspector General of Police General Majak Akec Malok promised police will combat crimes in Juba city.

“You have already learned criminal procedures, the work of the police, the protection of civilians and their properties is in the hand of the police, police do investigation for the crimes, and we need to limit crimes,” Gen. Malok said.

General Akol Koor Kuc, Director of Internal Security Bureau said “the work of the police and security service is close that is why I have come to talk to you.”

General Kuc said the police should ensure the protection of civilians and their properties.

“The police are responsible for the protection of lives and properties, either movable or fixed assets, and if the police are not there, then the market will not open so the security of the people is the responsibility of the police.”
