KHARTOUM – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group SPLA-IO’s military chief of staff General Simon Gatwech Dual’s office has disowned a fake letter floating on social media purportedly written by General Gatwech removing Dr. Riek Machar as leader of the SPLM-IO.
The letter claimed that Dual along with other senior opposition commanders sat at Magenis along the Sudan-South Sudan border and decided to remove SPLM-IO chairman and commander Dr. Riek Machar Ten because of his silence of continued delay of the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.
Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, SPLA-IO spokesman Brigadier-General William Gatjiath Deng, said the letter is fake and is meant to cause havoc among the SPLM/SPLA (IO) public by anti-peace elements.
“The Office of the SPLA (IO) Army Spokesman, would like to inform the public that, the letter which I have seen floating on media, claiming that the Chief of General Staff, Simon Gatwech Dual, has deviated himself from the Chairman’s administration, is not an official and a fake document, therefore, it has to be ignored by the public as it bears no seal and signature of the Chief of General Staff,” he said.
