General Olony says he ‘will keep faith’ with Machar

JUBA – Controversial opposition commander and former SPLM-IO nominee for the country’s oil-rich Upper Nile state, General Johnson Olony Thabo, who was replaced last month after 7-months -long objection to his nomination by President Salva Kiir Mayardit has finally spoke out saying he won’t break away from the main armed opposition group and will keep what he calls faith with First Vice President and SPLM-Io leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Olony was nominated by Machar on June 24, 2020 for governorship of Upper Nile state granted to the main armed opposition group by the revitalized peace agreement. However, Kiir refused to appoint him when he decreed the appointment of his colleagues from other states in the country on 29 July saying the controversial opposition commander, who also serves as the SPLA-IO Upper Nile state’s sector 1 commander, is a warmonger who he said will jeopardize reconciliation efforts among the bitter communities there.

In an unexpected compromise in January, Machar replaced General Olony with Abudhok Ayang who served as Olony’s deputy when he was the governor for the defunct opposition Fashoda state. The replacement of Olony who said at the time that he rejects his replacement sparked public outcry among opposition supporters and within the group’s leadership with the SPLA-IO chief of staff General Simon Gatwech Dual reportedly called for a meeting on what should be done next.

Speaking to Sudans Post on Saturday on a satellite phone, General Olony said he won’t break rank with Machar, acknowledging that Machar was in a pressure which he said was overwhelming and hard to take. He said he will remain in the camp and follow the implementation of teh revitalized peace agreement.

“You know, Dr. Riek was in a very bad position and in a overwhelming pressure that he could not – and I know this – take. So, I will keep faith with him because we also don’t want war because of teh suffering people of Upper Nile state,” the opposition commander said.

“So, I will keep the fight for the implementation of the agreement, but we won’t accept further violations of the agreement,” he warned.

“General Olony says he ‘will keep faith’ with Machar”

Of course, the birds of the same feathers flock together. Mr. Riek Machar, Lam Akol, Johnson Oliny and other foreign puppets/stooges and traitors, have been a huge snag to South Sudan and the South Sudanese people progress. In fact, some of them should have been hanged long time ago or rot in jail for the rest of their lives.

But we have a no-do-gooder, Mr. Salva Kiir and his bunch of lowly informed advisors
