JUBA – The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Louis Lobong Lojore, is seeking for 2 million U.S dollars to repair the fire-ravaged state secretariat.

Eastern Equatoria State General Secretariat caught fire on Wednesday.

The fire which broke out under unclear circumstances is believed to have started from the main power supply system spreading to a storage building that houses historical documents from 1994 to 2019.

The fire destroyed the offices of the state executive director and deputy secretary-general.

Part of the office of the governor got burnt and the rest were rescued.

The fire was reportedly put off by Civil Defense Services, a department of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), and some local residents in Torit.

In a statement Wednesday, Governor Lobong Lojore said he has relocated office after a fire outbreak destroyed part of the state secretariat.

“As we speak now, governor, deputy governor, advisors, and four ministers are now sharing offices with limited space to operate from,” Lobong said in a statement.

Lobong now appealed for $ 2 million to renovate the fire-ravaged building.

“An estimated amount of 2 million U.S dollars is required to carry out complete renovation and furnishing including the installation of solar power which we have been using,” it said.

“I appeal to the citizens of Eastern Equatoria wherever they are, those at home and in Diaspora and those working in other parts of the country to contribute in whatever you can for us to fix this building.”

“I appeal to National Government to assist the state and people of Eastern Equatoria to renovate this landmark building,” he said.

He also appealed to the UN Agencies and NGOs operating in the state to aid the government in a bid to restore the office complex in the state.
