TORIT – Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore and Greater Pibor Chief Administrator Lokoli Ame Bullen embarked on a peace mission to Boma County on Tuesday to address potential conflicts between the Toposa and Murle communities, stemming from issues like child abduction and cattle raiding.

Abraham Kelang Jiji, the Greater Pibor Minister for Information, told Sudans Post that the top state officials are delivering messages of peace to the youth in the region.

The joint efforts of the two governors aim to mitigate tensions and foster understanding between the Murle and Toposa communities.

“The reason why the two governors are moving together is that they need peace between the Murle community and Toposa Community. This is the reason why the two governors are moving together,” explained Kelang.

He highlighted that the governors organized rallies, bringing together community leaders, youth, and religious figures for dialogues on peace.

The gatherings, such as the recent one in Jebel Boma, served as platforms for spreading messages of peace to the public.

“When they go to any county or Payam, they call for a rally and speak to the public, outing messages of peace. Even in Jebel Boma yesterday, youth, women, elders, chiefs, and government officials came together to attend this peace rally,” Kelang stated.

He further mentioned that the youth leaders have committed to coexisting peacefully.

The communities, both Toposa from Eastern Equatoria and Murle in GPAA, have experienced the negative consequences of cattle rustling and child abduction.

“The response from the youth and the elders is that they will stay in peace among themselves. Both communities of Toposa from Eastern Equatoria and Murle in GPAA have been engaging in cattle rustling, and they have seen the negative consequences of cattle rustling and child abduction,” said Kelang.

He added that the two governors have plans to visit other counties bordering Eastern Equatoria State in their ongoing efforts to promote peace in the region.
