JUBA — South Sudan cabinet on Friday approved a new national development plan that was drafted by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning for 2021/2024.

The plan which is expected to improve quality of service delivery in the country has now been passed to the transitional legislature for further deliberations.

The national plan also sets out the projects that the government will prioritize in such as roads, schools, and other public infrastructure.

Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting on Friday in Juba, Information Minister, Michael Makuei Lueth the strategic plan focuses on security.

“Among the projects that were prioritized within this period are the security which is very important and it is a cross-cutting issue because without security, there will be no development and as sure, security was number one,” Makuei told reporters in Juba on Friday.

Makuei said the national plan prioritizes governance clusters, economic, services, infrastructure, and gender, and youth clusters.

“The methodology which was followed by the Ministry of Finance was through consultation and that is consulting all the ministries, stakeholders including the states and they came out with a plan for five clusters of governance, economic, service and infrastructure, and gender and youth,” he said.

“All the priorities for those clusters were put forward and the cabinet after thorough deliberation on all these things, passed the national development plan as revived; it has been passed for the minister to present it to the national transitional legislative assembly for further consideration,” he added.

The senior government official said the plan is expected to accelerate the review for the construction of Ramciel City as well as improve health capacity and investment in the educator sector.

“For us to ensure ourselves of security, there is need for connectivity and that is the roads, river transport and drainage of the rivers and then construction or implement of outstanding projects like Ramciel and some other project which have already been put in place,” he said

“Besides that, we will also render some services to the people, especially in education and health. These are some of the projects which were included in the strategy plan,” he added.
