JUBA, FEBRUARY 9th 2023 (SUDANS POST) – Kenyan security forces have deported a South Sudanese government critic and activist who has been vocal against the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, family sources and friends say.
Speaking to Sudans Post this evening, Angelina Marol – wife of activist and government critic Morris Mabior Awikjok – said her husband was arrested in Nairobi on Thursday last week by men she said were in Kenyan police uniform.
“They came here at night and knocked the door. We didn’t want to open it because they might turn out to be criminals and when we realized that they are police, we opened and then they arrested him without providing him with a warrant or anything,” she said.
“We have been asking about him and unfortunate we have learned that he has been taking to South Sudan, Juba, where he is probably being kept at the Blue House (the National Security Service Headquarters) and we haven’t yet spoken to him,” she added.
Separately, a source in Juba confirmed that Mabior is currently being detained at the National Security Service (NSS) and that “no information as to when he will be taken to court because I believe anything he is accused off has no basis.”
Local newspaper, The Dawn, reported that Mabior was extradited to Juba to face charges, claiming that he has been paid by some unnamed government officials to abuse the government while in Kenya and that he will be arranged in court soon
