JUBA, JULY 15, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The Acting Mayor of Juba City Council, Emmanuel Khamis on Thursday issued an order increasing the price of water per drum from SSP 800 to SSP 1,300.

“The Acting Mayor of Juba City has directed the water tankers to resume work and sale one drum of water at SSP 1,300 and it will be renewed later,” read part of the order issued  seen by Sudans Post and dated July 13.

The order didn’t cite any reason for the increment.

South Sudan Urban Water Corporation charged 100 Pounds per drum at Water filling stations.

The Mayor however directed security organs to protect tank drivers from any harassment.

“The security organs are to protect them from harassment. The National Security and C.I.D assign team to work with Water Tank Association,” it said.

In June, former Juba City Mayor, Michael Lado Allah-Jabu issued a local order reducing the prices of water from SSP 1,500 to SSP 800 within the city and SSP 1,000 in the outskirts.

The majority of Juba residents depend on water supply from the River Nile and water refilling stations. The capital city depends on water supply from mostly privately owned water tankers.
