JUBA – The Ministry of General Education and Instruction has launched an investigation into the death of a student who was electrocuted at Darling Wisdom Academy in Juba, the ministry announced on Monday.
The 19-year-old female student was tragically killed on April 18, 2024, after being struck by an electrical cable in the girls’ dormitory.
“We also want to inform the public that we had a tragic situation, one of our schools here in Central Equatoria, in that case in Juba town, where a fourth-year student was struck by an electric current and died,” Martin Tako Moyi, Deputy Minister of General Education and Instruction, at a press conference in Juba on Monday.
“We are investigating this very seriously and we will see to it that measures will be taken against the administration of the school,” he added.
The investigation aims to determine if the school’s administration was negligent. Moyi assured the deceased student’s family that justice will be served.
“Our director for basic and secondary education, our legal advisor, and undersecretary have taken steps to investigate and bring the administration of that school to book. We will take them to court,” he said.
