JUBA – The Renk County Commissioner in South Sudan’s Upper Nile state has confirmed that a woman has been detained by the organized forces in the area for chanting that President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the county commissioner should resign.

Dok Ghot Ngor said Fadhia Ngor has been under arbitrary detention since 13 days ago after participating in protests in which demonstrators asked the government to deliver services and to force local organizations to provide clean drinking water.

During demonstration and meeting with local authorities, the woman shouted “Down down Salva Kiir, down down Renk county commissioner, and down down SPLM.”

Under the South Sudan constitution, citizens have the right to assemble and protest in a peaceful manner.

But the Renk County commissioner said the way in which the woman and another detainee acted was unkind motivating arrest by the security forces there.

“These two people Fadhia Ngor and Malik Angok acted in an unkind manner when we were in a security committee meeting about the issue of the NGOs,” the local senior government official is quote by Eye Radio as saying.

“The organized forces consider it is a crime against the state,” the commissioner added.
