JUBA, NOV. 3, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan government has said that it has established that illegal blocks along the roads and water ways leading to Unity State are the one impeding service delivery to the northern-most state.
Speaking to reporters following a cabinet meeting on Friday, information minister Michael Makuei said the finding comes following the recent trip of the minister of general education and instruction to Unity State where she found out that illegal blocks set up by unknown people are impeding delivery of goods.
“The minister of general education and instruction, Awut Deng Acuil, under any other business briefed the cabinet on her visit to unity state and that while she was there, she observed that there were a lot of problems that were being faced there,” said Makuei.
“Out of them was an outbreak of measles in Unity State and that the roads and river blocks that are usually used and these roadblocks and river blocks were used by people who are not known and as such they are the one who are causing a lot of problems,” he said.
Makuei who is also the government spokesman said minister Awut reported to the cabinet meeting chaired by President Slava Kiir that the roadblocks and river blocks have increased the cost of transporting even school materials like books.
“And these problems actually add value to the cost of transporting even school materials like books and so forth,” he said.
“When they are taken by river, people on the rivers charge them highly and people had to pay and as such causing them a lot of problems but anyway the cabinet was informed and all the directives were given on what should be done next,” he added.
