JUBA – The Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) has vowed to apprehend those responsible for the killing of a security officer during an ambush on a telecommunications convoy.
On May 23, 2024, engineers from the Universal Service and Access Fund (USAF) were attacked by armed youth in Kethelen Manyabol Payam, Gumuruk County, while delivering telecommunication equipment.
The attackers looted six trucks carrying towers and construction materials and killed a security personnel escorting the convoy.
Gola Boyoi Gola, Chief Administrator of the GPAA, condemned the attack and pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We are committed to holding these criminals accountable,” Gola said in a statement extended to Sudans Post. “Mobile Operators (MNOs) can be assured that we will recover their looted assets.”
Gola emphasized the administration’s commitment to creating a safe environment for businesses and travelers operating in the region.
“We will work closely with the National Government to implement robust security measures,” he stated. “Our administration is resolute in ensuring the safety of all travelers, including those providing essential services.”
The Chief Administrator underlined the negative impact of the attack on the local population.
“This senseless act not only endangers lives but also disrupts the flow of essential services,” Gola said. “We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased security officer and condemn this criminal act in the strongest terms possible.”
