The two men were traveling from Nzara to Yambio County when they were attacked. They were taken to Yambio State Hospital with gunshot wounds.
“We received two people this morning, they brought them from the side of Nzara, they were attacked by unknown people, both got injured, but one who got injured in the abdomen died due to bleeding,” the eyewitness said.
A Yambio resident said the security situation in the area has deteriorated since the removal and subsequent disappearance of opposition-appointed Governor General Alfred Futuyo.
He expressed concern that the insecurity would affect farming activities this year.
“Since former Governor Futuyo was removed and he disappeared to the bush, we know we are not going to be in peace,” he said.
“Chasing him to the bush has created much insecurity in Yambio, so I call on the government to resolve their political issues amicably so that we the farmers can go for our cultivations,” the resident said.
Local authorities in Yambio were not immediately available for comment.
