‘I am not on the run’: Machar ally denies he is hiding

JUBA – A senior member of the main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has denied that he is being pursued and accused unnamed ‘enemies of peace’ of waging media war against him.

Social media users have been circulating claims that Dut Majokdit, who is also the chairman of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, has fled to the Sudanese capital Khartoum and was being hunted down by rivals within the SPLM-IO and also the government.

When contacted, Majokdit denies he is in Khartoum to hide, but for medical check up and accused people he referred to as enemies of peace of being behind the claims that he fled to Khartoum because he was being hunted down back in Aweil.

“I am not wanted by anyone. In fact, I am a senior government official and no senior government official can run away. I have come to Khartoum for medical check up and when that is complete, I will return to Juba and then to my office in Aweil,” Majokdit said from Khartoum.

“So, those who are spreading these lies are enemies of peace and just want to divert the happiness of the membership of the SPLM-IO under the leadership of His Excellency the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar after the launching of the SPLM-IO secretariat in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state,” he added.
