JUBA – The Indian Embassy in South Sudan’s capital Juba on Saturday celebrated 57 years of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC).

The event was attended by a large number of South Sudanese ITEC alumni, government officials, and the Indian community in Juba.

ITEC is the government of India’s flagship program which was established on 15 September 1964 to offer the benefit of India’s development, experience, and appropriate technologies to the developing countries.

Indian Embassy to South Sudan, Ambassador Vishnu Kumar Sharma said more than 900 South Sudanese officials benefited from ITEC capacity-building program in the past years.

“Indian assistance remains on capacity building. Fully funded training courses are offered in India in different fields to South Sudanese,” Kumar said during the celebration in Juba.

Ambassador Michael Malual, Representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affair reiterated South Sudan’s commitment to continue to strengthen bilateral ties with India.

“The government of India has offered a lot of scholarship to our students here in South Sudan and training in various fields. I am one of the beneficiaries who went and attended a one-year course in 2011,” Malual said.

Taban Ngbaime, ITEC Alumni expressed his pleasure in offering them the opportunity to visit India to attend capacity-building programs in diverse spheres under ITEC.

“Today is a historical day for us the family of ITEC program in South Sudan, it is indeed a day we are celebrating a very big achievement by the government of India through its embassy in South Sudan,” Elias said.
