JUBA – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, led by the country’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has warned its supporters against discussing and exposing sensitive party matters on social media, saying Facebook, among other social media giants, is not a podium to discuss party affairs.

James Gatdet Dak, the spokesman of the First Vice President and senior SPLM-IO member said in a brief social media writing that that party matters should not be discussed on social media and warned against such move which he said would expose sensitive matters of the party.

“Sensitive party or security matters are not meant to be discussed publicly on social media,” James Gatdet said.

“There are structured bodies which occasionally and already discuss them, in case you know which party you belong to.  Facebook is not a party or security podium. It only exposes for wrong reasons. It is a social media, not a security media. Better in a confidential forum!” he added.

It is not clear why the senior member of the group warned, but in recent days there has been concerns over the attacks by government forces on SPLM-IO position in Central Equatoria with some members of the group blaming the leadership silence in Juba.
