In a statement shared with Sudans Post on Wednesday, Ambassador Naohiro highlighted that this financial allocation, part of Japan’s Supplementary Budget for FY 2023-2024, will be deployed across various sectors in collaboration with international organizations and NGOs.
“The Government of Japan provides USD 14.6 million (JPY 2,000,476,425) for a new cross-sectoral assistance package, in partnership with international organizations and NGOs, under its Supplementary Budget for FY 2023-2024,” Ambassador Naohiro said.
The funding holds a dual purpose, as outlined by the Japanese envoy.
It aims to contribute to both the execution of the peace agreement and the forthcoming elections, channeled through CTSAMVM and UNDP.
“While the assistance aims at providing emergency support for the people of South Sudan and alleviating humanitarian and security situations, especially by the Sudan crisis, the Government of Japan always hopes such assistance could encourage the recipient country and its people to develop a self-reliant development and economy,” he added.
Emphasizing the responsible utilization of these funds, he urged project implementers to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in uplifting the lives of South Sudanese citizens.
“The source of this USD 14.6 million contribution is the tax collected by the Japanese government from the Japanese people. Therefore, I must ask the organizations of implementing projects to use the fund most efficiently and effectively for improving the lives of the South Sudanese people,” he said.
“In addition, I would ask South Sudanese friends to remember that ‘your true friends’ are such ‘hard-working Japanese taxpayers’ who are assisting your self-help efforts to build a safe, prosperous, and democratic country of South Sudan.”
