BOR – The chairman of the Jonglei Civil Society Network (JCSN), Bol Deng Bol, has urged newly appointed state officials to prioritize peace, food security, and rising commodity prices, instead of engaging in unproductive political wrangling.
The call comes after President Salva Kiir reshuffled the Jonglei state cabinet, advisors, and county commissioners, appointing James Gal Makor as the new Bor County commissioner, replacing Samuel Ateny Pech.
Ateny was appointed as Bor County Commission last year, but he was never sworn into office.
“I want to strongly urge politicians in Jonglei State to avoid unproductive political cocoons,” Bol told Sudans Post on Friday while attending the swearing-in ceremony in Bor town.
“It is not political diversity but interfering against those in office. Our people need service and not unnecessary political wrangles,” he added.
Some of the new appointees include Isaac Mamer, Minister of Land, Housing, and Public Utilities, Nyamar Lony Thichiot, Minister of Information and Communication, and Lual Monyluak Dhau, Minister of Health.
Bol who is also the Executive Director of INTREPID South Sudan further highlighted the need for the new leadership to address food insecurity and the rising cost of living, which have negatively impacted both returnees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Jonglei.
